About Our Chapter We are located in the south east corner of New Brunswick, Canada. The principal city in the area is Moncton.
At special youth meetings being held in Moncton, one weekend, Cy Carson met Gordon Green. What drew Cy to Gordon, was the CMA colours that Gordon was wearing at the time. Gordon told Cy that he was chapter president of Central New Brunswick Christian Bikers, and what CMA was all about and later sent him some brochures. A little while later, Lindsay Cooper was visiting Cy while out on a run with his bike, and Cy told Lindsay about Gordon, CMA and gave him the brochures. Lindsay then got in touch with Gordon.
In late July, 1997, a group of about 12 Christian bikers, called by Lindsay, met at a coffee shop in Riverview with Doug Beattie, Maritime Coordinator of CMA and his wife, Billie. Also in attendance were Gordon and Wanda Green. The ministry of CMA was explained and what was required to become a chapter. From that meeting, a ride group was formed, and the following year, the first of August, 1998, we received our chapter charter, becoming the 23rd chapter in Canada. From the initial dozen interested bikers, we have grown to over 25 members with several more bikers fellowshipping with us when they are able.
Our chapter has participated in toy runs, poker runs, biker awareness runs, and rallies. Our members are also involved with GWRRA and BMW Riders. While we fully expected to participate in bike events for quite awhile before we had any opportunities for service, it turned out to be just the opposite. In 1999 our chapter was asked to organize a Sunday morning meeting for the regional rally of GWRRA. Also in 1999 we were asked to organize the games and again Sunday morning meeting at a local rally. Chapter members also assisted in gate security, and participated in rally events. Not bad for a chapter less than a year old.
Our members continue to be amazed at the opportunities that arise while riding. Whether it be at gas stations, restaurants or rest stops, we have found that people are eager to talk about bikes, or wish to take the time to admire our bikes, giving us the opportunity to talk to them. And the combination of "biker" and "Christian" seems to be even more startling to a lot of people.
Another thing that has surprised us, is how well we have come together as a group. A number of churches are represented in our group. Our backgrounds are different. Our occupations are different. Our ages are different. Our talents are different. But we have at least two things in common: Jesus Christ and motorcycles. And Jesus has taken this group of varied people and used our talents to compliment each other. He has also stretched us in areas in which we originally felt uncomfortable.
